RedBox Instant by Verizon for Google TV
Google TV isn’t dead and gone. Plenty of people out there still use and love their Google TV set-top boxes and TV’s. It has plenty of room to grow and isn’t going to be going anywhere any time soon. A new app will be making its way to your Google TV today. They have announced via their blog that RedBox Instant by Verizon is now available for Google TV.

The app delivers the full Redbox Instant by Verizon experience right to your living room. This includes access to your subscription disc and streaming package, and ability to purchase and rent the latest new releases from the Redbox Instant store.

The benefits of another streaming, purchase and rental source for our living rooms is a welcomed one. If you still fancy the old school disc option, you can also reserve the disc for a local pick-up through the app.

For those of us still sporting the first gen Google TV set-top boxes though, like the Logitech Revue, we are out of luck on this app. At least in the Play Store. The supported list covers many of the newer units only. Here is the list.

  • LG Smart TVs – 47G2 and 55G2
  • Netgera NeoTV Prime
  • Sony NSG-GS7
  • Vizio Co-Star

The app is available for all the mentioned devices and can be installed through the Play Store. Once installed you can sign in with your current account or create a new one. If you prefer to sign-up online, you can head over to the RedBox webpage. New users get 1 month free service and you also get 4 DVD credits to be used at a local kiosk a month. Not a bad deal for &8 a month.

Having never used it before myself, I am not sure how extensive or how limited their library is compared to some of the other options out there like Netflix. Any dedicated RedBox Verizon subscribers out there enlighten us on the collection?

I am the proud father of three, 3, 9, and 12. I recently upgraded from the Samsung Galaxy S3 to the Sony Xperia Z. Having so many kids warranted a change of pace. Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.
